en24news – The Werkspoorkwartier in Utrecht will receive a new building made entirely of wood. The office building will be called HoutWerk and construction began last Thursday.
HoutWerk is made of wood and partially circular materials are used for the façade and finish. The building will feature a sustainable climate facility in which electricity is generated in part by the solar panels on the roof. Materials that need to be replaced can be reused.
The construction is being carried out by Woody Building Concepts, a company specialized in the design and construction of commercial wooden buildings. According to the company, many wooden houses are already being built in the Netherlands, but it is still emerging in office construction.
“We want to accelerate this, because our wood construction concept offers entrepreneurs many advantages,” says Ivo van der Mark, CEO of the Janssen de Jong Group contractor, who works together with Woody Building Concepts.
“Wood is a natural product with a warm and attractive appearance. It is extremely sustainable and fits well with the idea of circular construction. With our prefabricated wooden elements we can create a huge diversity of characteristic buildings ”.
Construction should be completed by mid-2021.
