What is the minimum bend radius for bendable plywood?
It depends on thickness and which way you bend it. As a rough guide, a 3 mm sheet bends to about 150 mm (6 in) in its designed direction, a 5 mm sheet to about 250 mm (10 in), and 8 to 9 mm sheets to roughly 400 to 450 mm (16 to 18 in). Bending across the panel needs a much larger radius. These are typical, manufacturer-dependent figures, so confirm against the supplier data sheet and specify long grain or cross grain when you order.
Can bendable plywood be used outdoors?
No. Bendable plywood is an interior, non-structural product with an interior-grade glue line and a thin, low-density core. It is not rated for wetting. A curved element exposed to damp needs a sealed assembly built over a moisture-resistant substrate, not raw bending ply.
Is bendable plywood the same as flexible plywood or wiggle board?
Yes. Bendable plywood, flexible plywood, curve ply, bending ply, and the North American trade names wiggle board and wacky wood all describe the same product: a thin sheet whose veneers run in one grain direction so it bends around a tight radius.
Can I veneer or laminate bendable plywood?
Yes. Once the curve is stable, the surface accepts wood veneer, high-pressure laminate, or paint. Set the shape first, then apply the finish so the face sits cleanly on the cured curve.
