What are Siebdruckplatten used for?
Siebdruckplatten, or mesh-faced film plywood, are mostly used as floor panels in vehicle and trailer building, for stages and for work surfaces, because the embossed side keeps its grip when wet. Concrete formwork uses panels with smooth film on both faces instead, since any texture on the form face prints into the concrete. Retailers often sell both under the same name, so the surface (mesh/film, mesh/mesh or film/film) always belongs on the order.
Which is better, Siebdruckplatte or Multiplex plywood?
It depends on the surface you need, because both are plywood made from cross-laminated veneers. Multiplex stays uncoated and suits jobs where the wood should stay visible or be painted. A Siebdruckplatte carries a phenolic resin film that keeps abrasion and moisture off the face, which makes it the better choice for load floors, stages and formwork.
How water-resistant is a Siebdruckplatte?
The phenolic film keeps water off the face reliably, but it does not protect the cut edges. How long the panel copes with moisture depends on the core glue: MUF reaches EN 314-2 Class 2 for humid conditions and phenolic glue reaches Class 3 for long weather exposure. WBP describes a water-resistant glue line, and the wood itself can still take up water through open edges.
How do you seal the edges of Siebdruckplatten?
Fresh cut edges should be coated straight away with a suitable edge sealer, ideally twice for panels that stay damp. Vehicle builders often use epoxy systems on heavily loaded floors. Store the panels flat on bearers and covered, because they warp when stood on edge or left with one face in the sun.
Which EN 636 class does a formwork panel need?
Formwork that stands in the rain for long periods or has to deliver many outdoor pours belongs in EN 636-3 with a phenolic core glue. Covered formwork on short cycles works with EN 636-2 and an MUF bond and costs less. At Vinawood, Pro Form Lite and Pro Form are phenolic-bonded to EN 636-3, while Eco Form Plus, Form Basic and Form Extra are MUF-bonded to EN 636-2. Form Extra reaches up to 15 reuses thanks to its Superior Glue MUF but remains Class 2.
What thickness of Siebdruckplatte for a trailer floor?
For car trailer and van floors, 15 mm is the most common choice in the German-speaking market, in EN 636-3 for outdoor use. Side walls and linings usually need 9 mm, while heavy load floors with high point loads call for 24 to 30 mm. Wheel load and the spacing of the supporting frame decide in the end, so check the vehicle builder's specification.
