Plywood Packing Calculator

Calculate how many plywood sheets fit in a 40ft High Cube container. Select your core material (or enter a custom density), panel size, and get a complete packing reference table for all standard thicknesses — from 3mm to 60mm.

1Select Core Material

Core type determines wood density, which affects weight and loading capacity. Choose a preset or enter a custom density.

2Select Panel Size

Standard and cut-size formats.

3Configuration

Adjust pallet count and max payload for your specific loading scenario.

How to Calculate Plywood Packing for a 40HC Container

When importing plywood from Vietnam, one of the most critical questions is: how many plywood sheets fit in a 40ft High Cube container? The answer depends on several factors including plywood thickness, core material density, panel size, and the number of pallet positions available.

Key Factors That Affect Packing

  • Core Material Density: Heavier woods (Eucalyptus at 650 kg/m³) mean fewer sheets per container compared to lighter cores (Styrax at 500 kg/m³) because the weight limit is reached before the height limit.
  • Thickness: Thinner sheets (3–9mm) are usually height-limited (stack reaches the maximum before reaching the weight limit), while thicker sheets (18mm+) are often weight-limited.
  • Panel Size: Standard 1220×2440mm (4×8 ft) and 1250×2500mm (Euro) panels have different weights per sheet. Cut sizes (610×2440mm) effectively double the piece count.
  • Pallet Configuration: A 40HC typically holds 15–18 pallets depending on the loading arrangement. More pallets means more total sheets but may require reducing sheets per pallet to stay within the weight limit.

Packing Calculation Formula

Sheets per pallet = min(Max Stack Height ÷ Thickness, Max Payload ÷ (Pallets × Weight per Sheet)). Our calculator uses factory-standard constraints: 900mm max stack height, 28.5 MT max payload (adjustable), and rounds sheets per pallet optimally.

Tip: If your wood species is not listed, use the “Custom Density” option to enter any density value between 200–1200 kg/m³. This is especially useful for engineered wood products, tropical hardwood plywood, or special blends.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sheets of 18mm plywood fit in a 40HC container?
Approximately 1,050–1,100 sheets of 18mm 1220×2440mm plywood fit in a 40HC container. The exact number depends on core species (weight) and pallet configuration. Lighter cores like Styrax allow more sheets before hitting weight limits.
What is the standard packing for plywood exports from Vietnam?
Standard export packing uses hardwood pallets with steel strapping. Sheets are stacked 50–100 per bundle depending on thickness, wrapped in waterproof PE/kraft paper, and banded with steel straps. Corner protectors are standard for quality protection.
How does plywood thickness affect container packing?
Thinner plywood (3–9mm) fits more sheets per container by count but may reach weight limits faster per pallet. Thicker plywood (15–30mm) has fewer sheets per pallet. Always check both volume and weight limits using the calculator above.
What panel sizes are available for Vietnam plywood exports?
Common export sizes include 1220×2440mm (4×8 ft), 1525×2440mm, 1525×3050mm, and 915×1830mm. Custom sizes are available on request. The panel size significantly impacts how many sheets fit in a container.
